Effect of the Air-Stirrup in Controlling Ankle Inversion Stress

Summary:
Subtalar ankle inversion, with and without the application of an Aircast Air-Stirrup, was evaluated using high speed cinematographic techniques and a specially designed platform that inverts the ankle. The results indicate that "the range of inversion in ankles braced with the Air-Stirrup was significantly less than in unbraced ankles… [Also] the reduction in motion in the frontal plane, such as provided by the Air-Stirrup, should lead to fewer inversion sprains for those wearing this brace."
