| Summary: Functional and radiographic results of operative and non-operative treatment of fibular collateral ligament injuries were compared. "Non-operative treatment… consisted of the use of an ankle orthosis [Aircast Air-Stirrup] for six weeks… After a minimum of two years of follow-up, we could detect no significant differences… between the two groups with regard to the functional result or the degree of joint laxity that was evident on stress radiographs." The non-operative group also returned to work significantly sooner than the operative group. |
