Summary:
A historical perspective of functional management of ankle sprains provides the reasons for using the Aircast Air-Stirrup for primary treatment. Clinical trials found that the indications for use of the Air-Stirrup include: "ligamentous injury, stable malleolar fracture, open reduction, after initial cast period, os calcis fracture, subtalar synovitis, and posterior tibial tendinitis."
