Summary:
Traditional methods of casting were compared to the use of the removable air splint (the Aircast PneumaticWalker™). Using the PneumaticWalker resulted in "a significantly diminished incidence of lower extremity atrophy and osteoporosis… [and] an 18% reduction in needed [physical] therapy visits" when compared to conventional casting. "The Aircast Walking Brace is an effective, sturdy, easily used mode of immobilization that incorporates many of the positive features of conventional casting."
